An Ode to Castles

Here is a little change of pace for this week’s post and picture of the week. I also want to give credit where credit is due. It was not entirely my idea to write an ode for this post; I was inspired by Rebirth Workshops and Retreats for Visual Artists. The play challenge was to write a terrible poem, but I couldn’t get the thought of castles out of my mind. So instead I wrote a poem summarizing my experiences visiting castles.

I also want to point out how much I love the above blog. The creators of Rebirth are amazing people and artists. If you have a moment today check it out. I guarantee you will be inspired!

See you next week!

Jackie

How you intrigue me with your presence
And your long line of descendants.
A majestic sight of safety you are
For all the residents who’ve worked so hard.
Protect the land it must
From enemies who lust.
Territory, gold, jewels and weapons alike
Are worth the strife.
But if a battle is lost,
Pride is always the biggest cost.

How I wonder what life was like
And would it change my sight?
Is it the mystery that attracts
Or the constant attacks?
Was it always about material things,
the pride or political strings?
It’s been a long time since you were built
And yet you still have strong men wearing kilts.
My memories will hold fast
All the times I had a blast
Wandering your inner ward and your towers
Are some of my finest memory showers.
